To facilitate the economic, social and environmental stewardship of Western Australia’s dairy farming industry through effective collaboration, research, development, extension and adoption.

Focus

Our primary responsibility includes:

  • In collaboration with local stakeholders, set priorities to address the needs of local industry
  • Identifying investment opportunities to promote R,D,E & A for the Western Australia dairy industry.
  • Seeking funds to deliver initiatives that add value to the industry.

How we operate

The Western Dairy Board meets bimonthly to undertake the following activities:

  • Review progress of invested projects.
  • Consider project opportunities that will contribute to the industry’s shared vision.
  • Input observations to Dairy Australia to inform the delivery of services that add value to the industry.

Appointment of Directors

Western Dairy is committed to meaningful succession planning and aims to develop both new and future leaders in the WA dairy industry. As such, the board has a philosophy of nurturing young people who express an interest in being involved in Western Dairy.

Nominations are called for in Early Spring and nominees interviewed by a selection panel of four chaired by the WAFarmers Dairy Section President, with the successful nominees announced at the AGM meeting in December.

Help shape the future of WA’s dairy industry

Are you a Western Australian dairy farmer passionate about influencing the direction of your industry?

Western Dairy is calling for expressions of interest from producers who want to contribute at a strategic level, ensuring farmer perspectives continue to guide industry priorities and investment.

We are a farmer-led organisation working in partnership with Dairy Australia to deliver research, development, and extension (RD&E) outcomes that matter most on-farm. The Board oversees the responsible use of WA dairy levies, strategic planning, and engagement with stakeholders across the supply chain.

Duties/Responsibilities

As a Director, you will:

  • Provide insight and leadership on research, development and extension priorities.

  • Guide investment decisions and regional project direction.

  • Represent the interests of WA dairy farmers in national discussions.

  • Contribute to Western Dairy’s strategic plan and annual operating plan.

  • Help strengthen relationships between farmers, researchers, and industry groups.

Eligibility

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • Be a levy-paying WA dairy farmer (as defined by Dairy Australia).

  • Demonstrate strong commitment to and understanding of the dairy industry.

  • Be available for approximately six meetings per year (a mix of in-person and online).

  • Maintain independence and confidentiality in decision-making.

Andrew Jenkins

Chair

Andrew is a third-generation dairy farmer and runs a 750-cow dairy in Denmark with wife Claire.

Andrew was co-opted to the board of Western Dairy in 2017 and moved to an appointed position in 2018.He was re-elected for a second three-year term in 2021 and was appointed Vice Chair the same year. Andrew was appointed Chair of the Western Dairy board in 2024.

Andrew holds a degree in agribusiness from Muresk Institute of Agriculture and has a keen interest in business management, pasture production and genetics.

Robin Lammie

Vice Chair

Robin owns a 650-cow dairy in Busselton in partnership with family. Aside from a long familial history of dairying, Robin has several business interests and previously owned and operated Bunbury Freight Services for 17 years.

Robin was formerly Chair of the Western Dairy board from 2022 to 2023.

Bonnie Ravenhill

Director

Bonnie and husband Ken are dairy farmers in the Great Southern region of WA.

Bonnie sees dairy farming as both challenging and rewarding. She also believes it is critical the different physical, financial and environmental resources that are available to all farms are used to enhance not only individual businesses, but the whole industry.

Bonnie’s background in rural lending enhances her skills in business financial management, procedural systems analysis and succession planning.

Scott Hamilton

Director

Scott was born in New Zealand and moved to WA in 1986. He has a Bachelor of Agricultural Science from Massey University and a Master of Science degree from Murdoch University.

Scott has been involved in the dairy industry for over 30 years including share farming for the past 21 at Hithergreen. He recently ceased milking however continues to be active in the sector raising dairy heifers.

Scott is a strong advocate for business sustainability and educational opportunities within the WA dairy industry.

Paula Mathieson

Specialist Director

Paula is an Agribusiness Manager for NAB for 34 years working with farmers across all industries in the southwest of WA. Paula holds a Degree in Management and Accounting at Edith Cowan University and a Bachelor of Behavioural Studies in Business Processes and Psychology at Swinburne University.

Paula is also a WA Justice of the Peace. Over her career, Paula has built a solid customer base and provided support and mentoring to colleagues and customers throughout her career. As a co-opted specialist director, Paula brings a diverse skill set to the board with an independent perspective.

Michael Rose

Specialist Director

Michael grew up on a dairy farm and now works at Farmwest helping farms with their breeding programs. This involves everything from genomic evaluation to bull selection. In his role, he is in contact with WA dairy farmers on a daily basis.

Michael holds a Bachelor of Agribusiness from Curtin University (Muresk) and Cert 2 & 3 in Agriculture (Dairy).
He is passionate about the WA Dairy industry and looks forward to making a positive contribution whilst on the board.
